Samuel P. Hess
Sam Hess is a 1997 graduate of Nicholas County High School. After high school, Sam attended West Virginia University, where he graduated with a degree in history and a minor in communications. During his undergraduate studies, Sam worked in Fayetteville, West Virginia, for a whitewater rafting outfitter, where he was able to share his love for the State of West Virginia with others. In 2004, Sam joined the United States Army, where he was the Distinguished Honor Graduate in Infantry Basic Training. Sam served as a scout/sniper in the 82nd Airborne Division and did two tours of duty in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
In 2009, Sam entered the West Virginia University College of Law as a member of the class of 2012. Sam received CALI awards in seven classes, signifying the highest grade earned in each of those classes. He graduated Order of the Coif from the College of Law in 2012.
Upon graduation, Sam served as the law clerk to the Honorable Lawrance S. Miller, Jr., in the 18th Judicial Circuit from 2012 to 2017. In August of 2017, Sam joined the Kingwood office of McNeer, Highland, McMunn and Varner, L.C.
Sam is a member of the West Virginia State Bar, and currently serves as the representative to the Young Lawyers Section for District 15, and he is also admitted to practice in the United States District Court for the Southern District of West Virginia. He is a member of the Kingwood Rotary Club, and helps coach the Preston Mat Club, a youth wrestling organization.
Sam and his wife, Erin, have three children: Anna, Mason, and Laurel. In his free time, Sam enjoys the outdoor recreation opportunities in West Virginia, from competing in triathlons to early Saturday morning fishing on the Cheat River right outside his home.
